Is owning a credit card good or bad? How to use it to fulfill our financial needs?

We know that credit card is used to make money when we need and repaying it before deadline without interest. But do you know about credit scores? If not, do check out this blog. In this blog, I will tell about the credit score, the advantages of having a high credit score, tips to increase your credit score, and some cons of owning a credit card.

What is a credit score?

A credit score is a number between 300–850 that depicts a consumer’s creditworthiness. The higher the score, the better you look to potential lenders. A credit score is based on credit history: number of open accounts, total levels of debt, and repayment history, and other factors.

For example, you want to buy a guitar and you have no money. You take money from your credit card and buy a guitar. If you pay the amount you drew from your credit card before the deadline, you will be having and maintaining a good credit score. If not, you will have to pay interest from the first day(money taken day) onwards, and your credit score decreases.

Conversely, a credit score of 700 or above is generally considered good and may result in a borrower receiving a lower interest rate, which results in their paying less money in interest over the life of the loan. Scores greater than 800 are considered excellent.

  • Excellent: 800 to 850
  • Very Good: 740 to 799
  • Good: 670 to 739
  • Fair: 580 to 669
  • Poor: 300 to 579

There are some factors, which will determine your credit score. Those factors are how much money you drew, how much time you took to pay that money back, your credit types, credit length and its history, and so on…..

All you need to remember is to pay off the money as soon as possible.

Advantages of having a high credit score:-

1.As I described earlier, you will have lower interest rates on credit cards and loans.

2.No need for huge paperwork for getting a loan. If you have a good credit score, you will have more chances of getting a loan.

3.You can borrow more money from the bank. Let me give a small illustration on this point. There are 2 persons(A and B) who want to start a rice mill. Person A has a credit score of 703 and Person B has a credit score of 485. They both went to the bank for taking loans for their business. Who do you think to have a high chance of getting the loan and more money? Person A. You know now the advantage of having a high credit score.

4.If you have a good credit score, you will get good rental houses or apartments in metropolitan cities.

5.If you want to claim any insurance, you will have a chance of paying less, if you have a good credit score.

You have many advantages of having a high credit score. The above ones are the basic things that can be helped by having a high credit score.

Tips to increase the credit score:-

1.Pay your bills on time!!!

2.Know all about credit card rules and bank rules, before owning them. Not all banks have the same credit rules. Choose the best credit card that opts you.

3.Don’t have many credit cards. Have a maximum of 2 cards. It’s enough.

4.Don’t close your credit card account and regularly check and use them, eventhough you have enough money.

5.Use apps like Cred, to track your credit score and to get many advantages like cashbacks, reward points….

6.Have a mixed type of credit type, like a student loan, business loan, and so on… so lenders will think you will have the potential to pay off the loan.

7. Don’t tempt and overuse credit cards, which you can’t pay. You will lose your credit score and also will be in debt. Be careful of it!

Some cons of owning a credit card:-

According to me the only con is not being able to pay off the bills within time and interest charges. But if you pay off the money you owed on time, then it is not a big deal.

A credit score can significantly affect your financial life. It plays a key role in a lender’s decision to offer you credit. So it’s your choice of how you use them.

Can you make the stock market, one of your investment vehicles?

Many people, especially in India, believe that the stock market is much like gambling and is based on our luck factor. They think we need more money to invest in the stock market and also experts can only do that. Is it right? A simple answer is no.

And many people who are investing in the stock market don’t have fundamentals and tend to lose money. Many people think that the stock market is complicated. But trust me, it may be tricky and confusing but not complicated. In this blog, I will tell what is the stock market, Why the stock market, how it works, tips for investing so that you won’t lose all of your money, and useful books and links so that you can dig deep into the stock market and can make it as your side hustle or full-time job. Let’s get into the topic.

The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient.

Warren Buffet

What is the stock market?

A stock market, equity market, or share market is the aggregation of buyers and sellers of stocks (also called shares), which represent ownership claims on businesses. These may include securities listed on a public stock exchange and stock that is only traded privately, such as shares of private companies that are sold to investors through equity crowdfunding platforms. Investment in the stock market is most often done via stock brokerages and electronic trading platforms. Investment is usually made with an investment strategy in mind.

Why stock market?

You may think why taking risk and investing in stocks. we can go for fixed deposit, so that your money will be safe. But no. Before knowing why you should know what is inflation. Inflation is the decline of purchasing power of a given currency over time. A quantitative estimate of the rate at which the decline in purchasing power occurs can be reflected in the increase of an average price level of selected goods and services in an economy over some period of time. The rise in the general level of prices often expressed as a percentage, means that a unit of currency effectively buys less than it did in prior periods.

Sounds complicated. Let me simplify it. In the 1990s, the value of 100/- is more, but now in 2021, its value is decreased by 40%(assumption). Then the things you buy with Rs.100/-in the 1990s can’t even get you half of those things in 2021.

Stock market comes you to your rescue. Inflation does not affect the stock market.  This is the main reason and long-term investments give you huge profits.

How does it work?

Let me explain this topic with a small example, and with small mathematical calculations; Suppose there is a Company XYZ and two persons A and B.

Let the current share price(one share) of company XYZ be 100/-.

Due to the increase of revenue of the company, the share price(one share) of company XYZ increased from 100/- to 120/-.

If you bought 5 shares at Rs.100/-(total of 500/-), now the profit you get is (120-100)*5=100.

Not only gain you may tend to lose your money too.

But you may get doubt who buys our stock.

For the same company XYZ, due to some company issues, suppose the CEO resigned his position. Person A thinks that he should sell his stock as the CEO dropped from his position consequently company will become unstable.

But person B thinks that the upcoming CEO will bring more revenue to the company and buy stock from person A. This is how the stock market runs. The concept of “Point of view” plays the main role in the stock market.

Tips to withstand the tricky stock market:-

1.Research about the stock you are gonna invest in and analyze it.

Not only the statistical approach but also follow news about the company in which you gonna invest, take a glance about the revenue, product that markets, scope of that product, the reputation of the company and so on… You may think exaggerated, but it is a good practice.

2.Don’t invest your living expenses, invest your savings and start slow(invest less money).

3.Have a good mindset. Not only making profit but you should also able to take lose too. It’s okay to lose, so you will learn from your mistakes.

4.Don’t depend on brokers, for investment or trading. Even though they make a profit, it has no point at all. Always be a self-learner.

5.Always learn about it, the stock market is a never-ending topic, and be consistent.

So, this is brief description about stock market. I tried my best to bring this topic before you. I hope you will get to understand this info and try to learn more about stock market.

Is self-care important? If yes, how to take care of yourselves?

Its your birthright

What are the things people need the most? Money, Food, Clothes, Shelter, a good family, happiness, fame, respect, good health, reaching their goals, and so on… To achieve those things we run in our life and sometimes we get lost, depressed, unsatisfied, and so on…. But you can do a thing, to get on the track. That is a self-care technique. Taking care of your health(both physically and mentally) is not bad. It’s your birthright. And you can only do it.

Self Care is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation

Productivity Wall

So, Why don’t you spend some time and read this blog? Because I will tell 7 self-care tips, which will help you feel refreshed every day, give you a sense of satisfaction, and make you happy and productive.

1.Sleep Sleep Sleep!!!

Yes, sleeping means not only just resting for 8 hours, it is sleeping, and waking up at same time(proper sleep schedule). Prefer quality over quantity. Even 5 hours of peaceful sleep is enough compared to 8 hours of disturbed sleep. A good sleep cycle enhances your mood and makes you feel refreshed for the whole day.

2. Fitness and healthy diet

A healthy diet and regular exercises will help you stretch your limits. I am not telling you to eat salads and maintain a strict diet nor do weightlifting and push-ups. A nominal and simple food, having food at regular timings, doing some small stretches, and hitting 5-15 minutes of cardio on mornings are enough. You can start by walking. These simple things may not give you results in just 1 day or 1 month. But over years, they will definitely pay you a lot.

3.Adapting to Organized Lifestyle

“Being organized is being in control”. You need not do big accomplishments. A regular small habit, like immediately after waking up making your bed and cleaning your surroundings, doing or packing things and clothes on before night, so you can quickly grab them and start your day peacefully. Keep a planner or calendar and note the things you will do on that day like a To-Do list.

4.Saying No to others!

We often faced this problem, that even though we are not willing to tell yes to them, but we can’t tell. Learn to say “No”, when you are not willing. If it isn’t, say something like, “Thanks for asking, but I’m going to have to pass this time,” or “I wish I could, but the next couple of weeks are really busy for me.” This will save your time a lot and will also not hurt others.

5.Take a break or a short trip or ME TIME!

Taking a self-care trip can make a huge difference in your life. Even if you’re not feeling particularly stressed, getting away for a weekend now and then can help you disconnect, relax, and be rejuvenated. These self-care trips don’t have to be costly; simply drive to the next town over and see the sights, or go camping nearby. The goal is to veer away from your normal schedule and take the time to do something just for yourself.

Thanks to the Internet that we can access anything at any time. Why not use it to make our brain happy instead of wasting time on social media. An engaged and challenged mind is going to be a lot healthier than one that is bored. Pick up a new hobby, learn a new language, travel someplace you’ve never been before, take a class at your local community college, join a gym, or do something else that you’ve always been curious about. An engaged and challenged mind is going to be a lot healthier than one that is bored.

Want to get over mobile addiction? Then you came to the right place!

Focus on mobile will lead to your destructive life, whereas focus on the skill development will lead to successful life. Choose which focus you want?

Our main obstacle is our mobile. But there are some people, who use mobile for learning skills, to generate income, to develop. But they too don’t use mobile for a long time.

Some choices become actions, actions become habits, and habits become our way of life.

Atomic habits

I agree, during this covid, our classes became online and we should use the phone for submitting assignments and for classes and so on…. But be true to yourself. Are we using mobile-only for that?

A simple answer is no(most people). Even I also got addicted to the phone. So for myself, I researched the cause, effects, and solutions to get rid of mobile addiction. Those worked for me well. I hope they will work for you too.

So before going to solutions, let us have a short description about why we are addicted to mobile and the effects that will be caused when you use mobile a lot. I will also tell a bonus tip so that you can use your phone for personal development.

Reason for being addicted to phone?

In our brain, there is a hormone released called Dopamine, when we are happy.  Releasing Dopamine, too much or too less is harmful.

So when you see mobile or chat or interact with people through social media, you will be happy. It is good. Dopamine releases and we will feel reassured. But the problem here is, not only you feel happy, but also you will lose a sense of satisfaction. So in order to acquire that satisfaction, we will sink into the world of social media. So, it leads to an increase in the release of more dopamine and will create some disturbances to your brain. Sounds complicated. Let me simplify with a small flow chart:-

See this simple flowchart. It is a non-linear process.

Effects of mobile addiction:-

What researchers do agree on is the fact that adolescents are more likely to demonstrate addiction-like symptoms with their cell phone use than other age groups. Excessive cell phone use among teens is so common that 33 percent of 13-year-olds never turn off their phones, day or night. And the younger a teen acquires a phone, the more likely they are to develop problematic use patterns.

You know the major consequences that occur due to mobile addiction, like eye problems, memory loss, disturbance in sleep schedule, anger, and so on… But there are some serious consequences that affect your mental health and sometimes may result in depression.

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • FOMO(fearing of missing out)
  • loneliness, depression
  • losing focus, spontaneity, and attention
  • Negative attitude and feeling
  • Escapist behavior, interaction problems
  • And even physiological problems like obesity.

These may sound over reactive, but at least 3-4 effects are faced by you. There are many pieces of research out there to prove the harmful effects of excess mobile usage. I have read 2 pieces of research and listed them below. Check them out.

Now, we will go through the methods, to decrease your screen time. Just reading them, won’t help you in getting rid of mobile addiction, following the tips that I tell you and after following those tips, tell me which tip you find useful or which tip you want to start. If you have more tips, do comment on them, some and others will learn about them too. Also comment, what are the issues you face due to mobile addiction.

Tips to fight mobile addiction:-

  • The first common method and the method to follow especially during online classes is, shifting to the laptop. Listen to classes on the laptop. Use social media accounts on your laptop, and uninstall those apps on your mobile. As you won’t carry a laptop, every time and opening it consumes some time, you won’t feel like using them. Connecting with friends is good. And especially in this pandemic, it is useful, but you shouldn’t get addicted to it. You should allocate time for yourself.
  • Shift your chatting to calls. Instead of chatting hours and hours, call once and speak 15-20 minutes to them and end the call. Follow this, you will find a huge sense of satisfaction, which you will not get through chatting.
  • Set a day in a week. At least one day a week(any day), keep your mobile aside completely. I know it sounds exaggerated, but this is one of the most powerful methods. Try it. If you are able to do it, comment yes, I did it. If not try again. No worries.
  • Shift mobile alarm to physical alarm. It is old, but a real golden rule. Think once, if you wake up with the mobile alarm, you will eventually start seeing mobile after waking up. It is regarded as a bad start to your day. The best and cheapest option is waking up by an alarm sound. I swear, I didn’t collaborate with any alarm clock company or I own it.
  • Change your phone settings. Simple settings like converting to grayscale, turning off notifications, keeping mobile on Airplane mode, restricting distraction apps will help you, to get rid of this addiction.
  • Keep your phone away. The common tip, but effective. You should definitely try it atleast when you are working!
  • If you are a blogger like me, or YouTuber or social media content creator or like these fields, block a time for it. For example, 1 hour completely every day to reply to comments and some sort of works like that. Other than that time, don’t use it.
  • Final tip is instead of wasting time on mobile, use it for developing skills, like Udemy courses or Coursera, or learn something new that actually helps you in your personal life and career.

Bonus Tip:-

You should be investing in yourself. You have ample resources to develop your skills and have a lot of time. Why waste it?

Check out some apps, I tell below, and if you find them useful download them. You need not spend hours and hours on them, and they will actually give you a hand to fight your mobile addiction.

The first app is Forest. It tracks your daily habits and make you self disciplined. Once you install app, you will know about it, and it is more fun too. You should definitely try this app. Click here to download that app.

The next app is Stay Free. It helps you in fighting the apps that makes you attract to phone and helps in tracking your screen time. It is definitely worth your time. Click here to download it.

The next app is Google Calendar. You may think what is the use of this app. There are many uses. Click here to know how to use Google Calendar effectively.

The next app is Notion. It is the best app, that I came across and have been using it for a long time. You should definitely check this app too. Click here to download that app.

(Note:- These apps are not recommended or promoted, I use them and thought, they will be useful for you too. The above links for downloading apps are from play store. They work in IOS too. You can download them from Apple app store.)

That’s it!

Here are the tips about how to use LinkedIn to grab new opportunities?

Nowadays, everything became digitalized. Because of this, competition increased and many are struggling to get a decent job. But there’s a way, to grab opportunities. That is LinkedIn. LinkedIn helps you find Jobs and also helps in brushing up your skills and knowledge through LinkedIn learning. But how to use it. Just having a LinkedIn profile and applying for some jobs will get you rejections. Don’t worry, I will give some tips  helps you grab Jobs/Internships.

Today’s network is tomorrow’s net worth.

Believe it.

LinkedIn is the largest social platform, where you can connect to the professional people. Many people use this site to get job/internship opportunities, to get clients for their business, for freelancing, for finding business co-partners, and, so on…..

You know “First impression is the best impression”. In LinkedIn, your first impression will be your profile. Google search results provides the completed profile only. So be sure, to complete your profile.

The things which will make your profile as a good one are:-

  • Good profile photo(should be formal and look professional).
  • Write a good description, which others can see, before checking your whole profile. That whole description should be catchy and should justify your whole profile and skills you possess. The word limit should be 100-120 words.
  • Include a concise summary of who you are, what you do, and what you have to offer. You have 2,000 characters to play with, but you don’t have to use them all. You can also link to, or upload, six examples of your work to make your profile sparkle.
  • Be clear and concise. Specify your skills and mention things that justify that you are expert in those skills. Be specific, like you are at intermediate level in so on so field.

You can see more tips and sample examples of how to create good profile – click here

Now, half of your work is over. Now the toughest part will begin. That is making connections. In this part, you may get rejections or you may not able to seek from the connected people, what you want. But don’t worry. Out of many people out there in LinkedIn, there are many people who want your skills and want to work with you. Be optimistic.

Here are some tips, that you can use to connect with people. The only thing you should do for it is to write a perfect connection request, that convince the opposite side people, that you are worth their time.

  • The first thing to do is to connect with the people you know.
  • Then connect with the people you want to know.
    • Connecting with tons of random people is the worst thing you can do. Repeatedly clicking the connect button on an algorithmically generated list of people LinkedIn thinks you may know is a recipe for mediocrity.
    • Look, networking means reaching out to people you don’t yet know. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people you would like to know.
    • How to write invitation messages to the people you want to connect. This is the main question now.

Click here to know how to write invitations for connection in LinkedIn.

Follow 5P’s while writing the connection invitation:-

  1. Polite
  2. Pertinent
  3. Personalized
  4. Professional
  5. Praiseful

This is the basic information, you should know, before you start LinkedIn.

A disclaimer: Only LinkedIn knows the exact threshold, but there is a real risk of your account being suspended if you get too many spam reports. Be careful of it.

Still confused. For more tips, and effective usage of linked in, i researched and provided the best resources. Check out them.

Being able to communicate effectively is one of the most important life skills to learn. Communication is defined as transferring information to produce greater understanding. It can be done vocally (through verbal exchanges), through written media (books, websites, and magazines), visually (using graphs, charts, and maps), or non-verbally (body language, gestures, pitch of voice, and tone). 4. Problem-solving Skills

As I described in the coding skills, you have known the importance of problem-solving skills in order to get technical jobs. But problem-solving skills are not only needed for the IT sector, but also in other sectors and in our daily life.

Situational Crisis means tackling a difficult problem by providing easy solutions for it. For tackling those problems, we need problem-solving skills. Problem-solving starts with identifying the issue, coming up with solutions, implementing those solutions, and evaluating their effectiveness. Different people will have different strategies and solve the problem in different versions.

But the process or steps that follow are the same. They are Analyze, Generate, Evaluate, Implement, Efficiency calculation. This is a non-linear process and can be repeated until we get the best solution.

When employers talk about problem-solving skills, they are often referring to the ability to handle difficult or unexpected situations in the workplace as well as complex business challenges. Organizations rely on people who can assess both kinds of situations and calmly identify solutions. Problem-solving skills are traits that enable you to do that. While problem-solving skills are valued by employers, they are also highly useful in other areas of life like relationship building and day-to-day decision-making.

Showcasing your problem-solving skills on your resume and cover letter can help employers quickly understand how you might be of value to their team. You might consider only showcasing problem-solving skills on your resume if it is particularly relevant to the position you’re applying for. Customer service, engineering, and management positions, for example, would be good candidates for including problem-solving abilities.

But how to develop the. Here are the some best resources that will guide you to improve your problem solving skills

5. Leadership Skills

Yeah, you guessed right! Without describing leadership skills how can this post give a sense of completion? You heard all the things why leadership skills are important since childhood. But I will share my secret sauce, that is, how to improve leadership skills and how can you convince the interviewer that you possess leadership skills.

“Effective leaders have the ability to communicate well, motivate their team, handle and delegate responsibilities, listen to feedback, and have the flexibility to solve problems in an ever-changing workplace”. This was a common saying and it sounds easy. But what makes you stand ahead of other people who are applying for the same job as yours.

Some people are natural leaders, but anyone can develop the skill set needed with some practice. If you want to take your career as far as it can go, then you have to be willing to put in the work. A good leader needs discipline. Developing discipline in your professional (and personal) life is a must in order to be an effective leader, and to inspire others to be disciplined as well.

7. Time-management Skills

Yes. It is. Time management skills means planning, controlling time. Simply doing more activities and getting efficient outcome in less time.

Mastering time management skills is not only useful for your work, but also useful for your personal life.

Many people get stressed and annoyed for even small things. The primary reason for it is, incomplete of activities within time. Making and following a task schedule reduces anxiety. As you check off items on your “to-do” list, you can see that you are making tangible progress. This helps you avoid feeling stressed out with worry about whether you’re getting things done.

Managing time well leads to more opportunities and less time wasted on trivial activities. Good time management skills are key qualities that employers look for. The ability to prioritize and schedule work is extremely desirable for any organization.

Effectiveness is different than efficiency, with effectiveness being about doing things well and efficiency being about doing things fast. Both are critical. Pursuing efficiency for its own sake is counter-productive.

Treat your time like it’s money. Create a time budget that details how you spend your hours during a typical week. Categorize time into fixed time (“must do’s”) and discretionary time (“want to do’s”).
